Scholarship program

The Philip Wannenmacher Scholarship Program serves students from the youth ministry at Central Assembly who go on to attend Evangel University. The Scholarship award is currently $750 per semester, renewable for up to 8 semesters.

Pastor Philip Wannemacher served as lead pastor of Central Assembly from 1970 until 1995. Central Assembly established the Wannenmacher Scholarship Program to honor his 25 years of ministry and service to our congregation. The scholarship program remains a tangible and lasting tribute to Pastor Wannenmacher’s life-long interest, care, and love for the youth of Central Assembly and his interest in their assuming positions of devotion and leadership in order to fulfill the worldwide mission of the Church.

The Wannenmacher Scholarship is funded through the generosity of the Udell Lawrence Trust. Allen and Udell Lawrence were longtime members of Central Assembly from the early 1940s. Allen was an astute businessman in the Springfield area, and Udell had a lifelong passion for youth and youth ministry. This scholarship program is made possible by their vision and generosity.


General Information
and Eligibility Requirements

  • The scholarship is limited to students who actively attended Central Assembly prior to their admission to Evangel University.

  • Only full-time students are eligible.

  • An initial application is required prior to the first semester of attendance. A renewal application is required for each semester after the first. 

  • All applications are reviewed and approved by the Board of Deacons at Central.

  • The Board will consider factors including attendance, volunteer service, membership status of the student and parents, and reference information to determine initial eligibility. 

  • To renew the award, students must maintain a full-time student status, good academic standing, and remain actively involved at Central Assembly.

  • Upon approval of the initial or renewal application, funds for scholarship awards will be disbursed to Evangel University prior to the start of each semester. 

  • A portion of Wannenmacher Scholarship is eligible for matching through Evangel’s Church Leadership Matching Scholarship program. For more information, contact Evangel’s Financial Aid Office (application available here).
