Our 2nd Annual Chili Bowl is coming up on Wednesday, October 29 and will be a wonderful evening of friendship and community at Central Assembly. The Multipurpose Hall will be the place for delicious chili sampling. The chili competitors will do their best to claim your vote for Best Chili in pursuit of the Chili Bowl trophy. Get there at 6:30pm and start sampling! There will be carnival games for the children to enjoy, live music, and a pie eating contest. This event is free for all. Bring your family and friends, and come ready to enjoy the night on us. Since this is a family event, childcare will not be available.
The chili cook-off is the main event of the evening. Do you think your chili has what it takes to claim Best Chili? Submit your old family recipe, or join a group of friends and submit an entry together. Pick up a registration form at the Connect Counter ASAP or visit our event page for more information and to sign up. The deadline for entries is this Sunday, October 19.
Traditionally, this is a special time to honor our pastors. First Timothy 5:17 says, “Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching.” When we honor God’s servants, we honor God. We bless our pastors financially at Christmastime. During this special month of appreciation, we’d like to honor our pastors with personalized notes and cards of appreciation and encouragement. For your convenience, throughout the month of October a box will be located at the Connect Counter where you may drop your gift of encouraging words.
During the Chili Bowl, kids’ games and activities will be in the lower foyer. We need lots of candy! If you can help with candy donations, please drop bags of individually-wrapped candy in the baskets located at either end of the foyer before or after service times. Thanks for your help!
If you would like to follow Jesus’ example and be baptized in water, please plan to attend a required baptism class next Sunday in the Choir Room. Adults will meet at 5pm. Kids will meet at 5:30pm. To sign up for a class, e-mail us.
Our annual Women@Central Holiday Lunch & Expo will be Saturday, November 1. The theme this year is “Live, Love, Share—A Beautiful Life.” The event will feature a shopping expo, an amazing panel of guest speakers, workshops on trending topics, a catered lunch from Maggie Mae’s, and an outreach opportunity to bless Weaver Elementary Store by donating new socks and underwear. Come early for shopping and workshops at 8:30am, then join us for lunch at 11:30am. Tickets are $14 and will be available at a designated table in the foyer through Sunday, October 26. If you would like to be a table hostess, your ticket price is $12. If you would like to be a vendor, please stop by our table and register. This will be a wonderful Saturday filled with friends, fellowship, and fun! If you have questions, please contact us.
This exciting new class is for everyone! It’s for those who desire to volunteer in a ministry but may not be sure where to start, how they can help, or where their strengths lie. It’s also for those who may have a good idea of their strengths but are interested to know what strengths the class might reveal. Prior to the class we will take an exam based on the book, Gallup’s Living Your Strengths. The StrengthsFinder test will determine each individual’s strengths and help match you with possible ministries that “fit you” at Central. To sign up and receive important class information, please e-mail us.
