Decoration Day was declared by Union Major General John A. Logan on May 30, 1868 as a day to decorate the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country with flowers or mementos. Memorial Day, as Decoration Day gradually came to be known, was celebrated on May 30 for decades. Then in 1968 Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act which created 3-day holiday weekends and made the fourth Monday of May Memorial Day. The holiday honors men and women who lost their lives while serving in the U.S. military. These defenders of our freedom deserve to be remembered and honored.
On Sunday, May 28, Interim Pastor Jim Bradford will speak in our morning service. We will partake of Communion together. No evening services or activities will meet. Enjoy this time with your family and friends.
The church office will be closed on Monday, May 29, in observance of Memorial Day. If you have an emergency situation, please call the church office number, 417.866.5013. Have a safe holiday weekend!
