The Church has practiced the Service of Shadows since medieval times. It was once a service for the monastic community. Later the practice became an important part of worship during Holy Week. Our Service of Shadows will be Good Friday, March 25, at 7:00 p.m. We join Christians of many generations throughout the world in using the Good Friday service as a time of reflection on Christ’s suffering and death and how His sacrifice relates to our redemption in Him.
The Service of Shadows is a prolonged meditation on Christ’s suffering. Readings and music trace the story of Christ’s passion and pathos. The power of silence and darkness suggests the drama of this momentous day. As lights are extinguished, we ponder the depth of Christ’s suffering and death; and through the return of the small but persistent flame of the Christ candle at the conclusion of the service, we anticipate the joy of ultimate victory.
That victory will be celebrated on Easter morning as we rejoice in worshipping our resurrected Lord and Savior! Please join us on Sunday, March 27, at either 9:00 or 10:30 a.m. to celebrate the culmination of the Week of Passion.
